Alaggia
Toronto, Canada Area
Dr. Ramona Alaggia uses her considerable experience in the field of children's mental health working with children and families, as a research and practice professor, to advance the work of the Factor-Inwentash Chair in Children's Mental Health in increasing awareness and knowledge of child and adolescent mental health issues. Having been awarded national research council grants and government contracts she specializes in examining issues of child sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, children exposed to domestic violence, and inter-disciplinary responses to violence and abuse. Her research and teaching is also focused on evidence informed practices in child and family interventions for youth with anxiety disorders, depression, and trauma based disorders.

Book Author: Ramona Alaggia is co-editor with Cathy Vine of the widely circulated textbook, Cruel but not Unusual: Violence in Canadian Families. Violence in families and intimate relationships affects a significant proportion of the population—from very young children to the elderly—with far-reaching and often devastating consequences. This book draws on the expertise of scholars and practitioners to present readers with the latest research and thinking about the history, theory, and impact of violence throughout the life course and across diverse groups and communities. For this new edition, chapters have been revised to reflect developments in
research, practice, and legislation. New chapters offer additional perspectives and topics including the inter-relationship of trauma and resilience, putting gender back into the family violence equation, and re-examining violence against women by bringing in voices from the margins. While advancing new research and theoretical developments, these additions echo the book’s central goal of engaging readers. Check it out . . .
