Megan
Hobson
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
I have experience as project historian and built heritage consultant for a wide range of heritage projects including residential, commercial, industrial and institutional sites. With professional training in both architectural history and heritage conservation, I bring together specialized skills in research, analysis, planning and conservation of built heritage resources.

I have over 20 years experience researching, writing and lecturing on built heritage in Ontario. I have taught art history courses at the University of Toronto and McMaster University and I am an adjunct faculty member at the Willowbank School of Restoration Arts, where I teach Research Methods and Conservation Planning. I primarily work in the private sector but have also worked as a municipal heritage planner for the Town of Oakville. I am very familiar with the planning and approval process for development applications in the GTA and GTHA.

Since graduating from Willowbank in 2009, I have advised private property owners, architects, planners and developers working on historic properties that are undergoing restoration and/or rehabilitation. I undertake site investigations, historic research, and community consultation to identify heritage values. I work collaboratively with stakeholders and heritage professionals to conserve those values as the project evolves.

I provide recommendations to ensure that all interventions to heritage properties follow best practices as outlined in the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada and that they meet or exceed requirements under the Ontario Heritage Act and all relevant heritage legislation, easements and planning policies.
