Konstantinos N. (Kostas) Plataniotis is a Professor with the ECE Department at the University of Toronto. His research interests are: digital media, multimedia systems, biometrics, image & signal processing, communications systems and pattern recognition. He is a registered professional engineer in Ontario, a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada and a Fellow of IEEE.
He served as the Editor-in-Chief (2009-2011) for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters and as Director of the Knowledge Media Design Institute (KMDI) - University of Toronto (www.kmdi.utoronto.ca), from January 2010 to June 2012.
Dr. Plataniotis was the IEEE Signal Processing Society inaugural Vice President for Membership (2014-2016). He is the General Co-Chair for the IEEE GlobalSIP 2017 (November 2017, Montreal, Q.C.), the 2018 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP 2018), October 2018, Athens Greece, and the 2021 IEEE International Conference in Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP 2021), Toronto, ON, Canada
