I was a Presenter-Producer with Channel NewsAsia. Besides presenting the news live on camera and the breakfast programme Primetime Morning

I produced segments and interviews for the channel and participated in an editorial role by deciding on

planning and scheduling interviews. While I am comfortable tackling fields as diverse as science and politics

my expertise lies in interviewing arts practitioners and writers. Highlights of these interviews include my conversations with Kevin Spacey

    Wole Soyinka

    Anita Desai

    Thomas Keller

    Sonny Rollins

    Chick Corea

Sophia Loren and Fernando Botero.\nI was also the moderator for two ministerial forums on healthcare and general elections which were broadcast on national television. This involved moderating discussion panels which included the Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.\nI have also hosted events and seminars for Channel NewsAsia.

    My postdoctoral project

\"Nature Capitals: Urban Ecologies and Literary Speculations

\" examines the connections between speculative fictions

and the ecologically-engineered environments of transnational

hyper-modern urban sites. Waterfront eco-developments of the rapidly developing cities of Vancouver

    Hong Kong

    Singapore

and Dubai will be paired these material sites with their literary and cultural counterparts. This interdisciplinary study will show how the nebulous intersections between imagined futures and actual realities may be able to alter the ways we think about temporality

    economic progress

and urban development. Literary texts offer us new ways to think transnationally about the issues like the impact of land reclamation

    environmental manipulation

    “green” urban planning

    migrant labour

and sustainable development. \n\nI am currently teaching Studying Culture: A Criticial Introduction

a large first year lecture style course. Aside from course design and lecture delivery

I also manage a team of 7 teaching assistants.

    McMaster University

    Editorial Assistant

I helped Professor Ato Quayson to launch this journal with Cambridge Journals. I coordinated the submissions process

    managed databases

    solicited book reviews

and scheduled the peer review process for articles. I also did the initial copy editing of articles and book reviews.

    and mentoring students.

    University of Toronto

    PhD Candidate

I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation

\"Counter-Cartographies: Literary Wayfinding in Transnational Cities\" --- the culmination of a five-year research project that examines how minority literary texts from Singapore

    Vancouver

and Toronto intervene in capitalist configurations of urban space.\nDuring my time as a PhD student and candidate

I tackled numerous sets of oral and written exams

and independently managed a complex and multi-faceted research project from its initial proposal stage to its development into a book-length manuscript. I also mentored other graduate students in various departmental workshops. I am currently working on a book proposal based on my doctoral research.\n

    University of Toronto
