DR. DEBRA SIBBALD has taught at the Faculty of Pharmacy U of T since 1975: became a course instructor in1993 and currently is a Senior Lecturer. She develops and evaluates curriculum designs to deliver outcome aligned competencies. She serves on Faculty, University, Medical Council and Health Professional assessment and evaluation committees. She serves on five national health professional committees for standard setting, assessment designs and research in evaluation for licensing examinations. She has been an invited facilitator for International groups in the UK and the Ministry of Health, Singapore.
She received her Pharmacy baccalaureate degree summa cum laude and completed a residency at Toronto General Hospital. Her Masters and PhD in Education focused on performance and written competency assessments. She has received twenty-two academic awards, including three Innovations in Teaching prizes from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the Vice President and Provost Merit Award, University of Toronto.
Debra practiced in hospital and community settings, specializing in Drug Information, Dermatology, and Minor Ailments. She has authored over 90 publications, including several Dermatology and Self-Care texts. She speaks to international inter-professional audiences as an expert in educational design and assessments; development and implementation of competency-based evaluations, continuing and inter-professional education, computer-assisted instruction, Dermatology, Wound care, and Minor Ailments She serves on twenty-one editorial advisory boards.
For nearly seven years, she served as the Executive Director of Assessment Programs at Touchstone Institute, where her work focused on advancing theoretical and methodological approaches to competency assessments and research designs. She customized assessments for Pharmacists, Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Optometrists Dietitians and Embryologists/Andrologists.
