As an Instructor of Mathematics at Winston-Salem State University

I have been blessed to work with over 5

000 students and help them overcome their fear of mathematics through my unique teaching style

    burst of energy

    and love of mathematics. Previously

I taught mathematics in seventh and eighth grade at Hill Middle School. I have worked with young people in many different capacities. I was the Program Director of the Girls Accessing Mathematics Effectively (GAME) and the Boys Effectively Accessing Mathematics (BEAM) programs at WSSU from 2003 to 2006. These programs were designed to increase the interest of middle school youth in mathematics and math-related careers. The AMAZE ‘N MATH (Automation

    Manipulatives

and Zesty Encounters in Math) Math Day is held each semester at a local middle school and in the community. Students in my Mathematics for Teachers II course create hands-on activities for elementary and middle school students that are correlated to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. AMAZE ‘N MATH Math Day activities are based on Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences and are designed to address the students’ varied styles of learning. This project allows WSSU prospective teachers the opportunity to engage in effective strategies for teaching mathematics. This project has been facilitated at the middle school level since Spring 2007.
