Music
Terry
Bartolotta
Chicago, Illinois
I am a passionate music educator and performer with twelve years of teaching experience.
I love to share my musical knowledge with students and inspire them to achieve their goals.
I teach students from age 5 to 65 of all ability levels (students with disabilities, war veterans, and music majors) from both rural, suburban and urban communities, as well as all socio-economic backgrounds. I teach individual guitar lessons, group guitar classes, music appreciation, and music theory courses. As a music educator who has taught at music stores, music schools, colleges, and homes, I know how to develop and match the curriculum with the student and the lesson setting.
As a bandleader and composer, I am constantly tasked with creating a vision. I am extremely passionate and committed to creating ideas and content, and insuring the successful outcome of my projects. Specifically, I have released two albums of my compositions and arrangements. This process involves extensive organizational skills, planning, creative vision, people and time/budget management, leadership, and execution.

I teach a beginning group guitar class, which covers the fundamentals of playing the guitar. In addition, I teach private lessons, which cover concepts like: guitar fundamentals, different styles (jazz, rock, pop, etc...), music theory, note-reading, ear training, repertoire and technical studies. Also, I teach music appreciation, in which I use blackboard learning software to engage students through posting videos, links, and discussion forums. I have taught fundamentals of music theory, in which my students have used teoria.com for interactive music theory exercises and tutorials. In all my courses, I inspire my students by demonstrating that music can be both fun and challenging, as well as being a lifelong journey.

Positions

  • Chicago Jazz Composer's Collective

    Member/Composer

Kathy Kelly has hosted this monthly concert series at the Green Mill Lounge for the last eleven years, and it features local jazz composers and performers. She has done a great job of prolonging this series, and I am happy to be a relatively new member in the collective. I am very grateful to Kathy for featuring my quintet and my compositions for this series at the Green Mill. urn:li:fs_position:(ACoAAAMv8ioB4DNesJyrnlXyqwi6Ig6ntb9Cp8I,96840012)
