  • University of Indianapolis

    Director, Vocal Arts Institute

The Vocal Arts Institute is a program for students from grades 9 to 12 that explores the art of solo performance through classical repertoire, folksong, and musical theater. Students will also enjoy classes in movement, sight singing, and theory, and will learn the International Phonetic Alphabet—a useful tool in the learning of diction for any language. In addition to academic studies, the students present several performances on campus and off, along with visits to area retirement communities.

Students receive individual attention through private lessons and daily master classes. The international faculty for the institute provides a unique opportunity for our students both musically and culturally.

The Vocal Arts Institute is in its seventeenth season. Our students have performed consistently well in solo competitions such as ISSMA and the Prelude Awards, sponsored by the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. They have also been well prepared for their college entrance auditions and are now pursuing degrees at the University of Indianapolis, Indiana University, DePaul University, DePauw University, Butler University, Carnegie Mellon University, Millikin College, Northwestern University, and Florida State University, to name a few.
