Good
Her lectures are amazing, very clear with lots of examples, and she answers your questions very well. Do the homework!! It helps a ton, and that's what the test material is on. Don't even bother to get the BIG BUCKS textbook. Her exams are straightforward and she doesn't try to "trap" students with trick questions.
Awful
Take Vickie Williamson for Chem 101 and Chem 102 McCartney is the teacher for chemistry.
Good
She is an amazing professor. Her exams were exactly the same as the mock exams which the TA's go over each exam week. Even though there is a lot of homework, it does help you to understand the conceptual aspects of the class better.
Awesome
Honestly don't understand why many people don't like Professor McCartney , is by far best chemistry prof for me. I enjoyed her lectures and never missed class because I like the way she teaches. Her tests were difficult but let us be honest A&M University is gonna be difficult no matter what.
Good
I think McCartney is fair.
Awesome
Dr. Stephanie rocks!!!! Her exams are pretty fair and she gives a mock exam the week before. Her lectures are clear and easy to follow and she's very accessible outside of class for help. I actually took her again for 120.
Awesome
T had AP Chem with Dr. McCartney and it was fairly easy. The homework site is awful as well as the lab, however if you show up wanting to learn and are willing to put in the work outside of class, then you will definitely get the grade you want. Her teaching method can be a little boring if you've already seen the material, but she's good.
Awesome
Honestly, I was pretty scared of chemistry because I knew it was going to be difficult, but Prof. McCartney was pretty amazing! She's very funny and her lectures were clear and easy to follow. Even though she gives homework twice a week, it was completion through aleks which made understanding the material a priority. I'd definitely take her again and would highly recommend her as a prof.
Average
Dr. McCartney has slow lectures and a lot of clicker questions that will count for grade points, so go to class! If you aren't good in chemistry, I would recommend going to her class as well as going to SI sessions. If you show her you care about the class she will help you figure things out. Beware of the homework though, she uses ALEKS and I hated it.
Average
Prof. Stephanie is amazing as a person, but her class is tough!
Poor
I took her for CHEM 119 and 120. She's pretty nice, but a tough prof. We had a very fast pacing. She has extremely hard grading. She doesn't even give extra credit. If you don't understand basic chem, it will be such a struggle for you.
Good
Prof. Stephanie is amazing! She's tough but you can see that she cares about her students!! I suggest you do your best to get high points on homework, lab, etc. because it can really buffer your grade. I got a mix of A, B, and D on my exams, but I still got an A because of my final and homework. ALEKS is quite annoying but really helpful!
Awesome
Before I took Chem with Dr. Mac, I had no idea what I was doing. In lectures, she makes the content explicit and easy to understand. We had HW twice a week, so staying on top of it allows you to study ahead of time and be prepared. Tests are difficult, but she plans practice tests for each one, which is highly helpful. People complain a lot on here, but it's completely doable. 10/10 would recommend!
Awful
Until COVID came, I loved her. She made it harder for us to cope with online class. Exams were more difficult! She then acts as though she might make certain finals grading simpler at the end of the semester, but then does nothing. But she claimed she was "Proud oF Us," so I suppose that's what matters, right?!?
Awesome
Dr. McCartney is a fantastic lecturer. This is a difficult class since you must study hard to grasp chemistry concepts, but Dr. McCartney makes it manageable. She is always willing to assist students who are working hard in class to achieve, and she genuinely cares about her students. You will succeed if you put in the time to actually learn.
Awesome
Doctor McCartney is a great choice for Chemistry. She's very helpful. She's very diligent and gives very clear directions on how to pass the exams. Always remember that the mock tests were very helpful. Do take your time in doing the homework, because it will benefit you for the tests. She uses ALEKS for homework. I had a hard professor for 119, so it was great to have her for 120.
Awesome
Doctor McCartney is an amazing professor. I had her for Chemistry 119 and 120. Fortunately, I got an A on both. She explains the material in detail and loves what she does. She prepares you for her tests with practice exams. Also, she's easily accessible via email and office hours for help. In addition, I suggest you to attend the SI sessions. I highly recommend her class.
Awful
I can say that I had many amazing professors this semester. Sadly, Professor McCartney was not one of them.
Awesome
I loved Doctor McCartney. She cared a lot about her students. She's very direct about her expectations for the class. The tests were difficult but similar to the mock exams. Also, the class offers many retake sessions before exams, and the laboratories are very easy too. However, ALEKS homework will be terrible, so make time for hours of daily work for chemistry.
Good
Professor McCartney's pacing is slow, making sure she answers as many questions as possible. She's quite accessible. However, this class takes up a lot of time. ALEKS is a lot and clicker questions during each lecture. On the other hand, if you study well, do clicker questions and take practice tests, you will do well on the tests since those have similar questions.
Poor
Professor McCartney has a very synthetic personality and ALEKS was a complete waste of time. She wasn't very accommodating during the pandemic and a lot of students complained about her. If you can avoid taking her, I would, but if you can't, it's not that bad. I suggest you definitely invest in a bit of tutoring though.
