  I began an exploration of texture

  gesture and color while painting gardens and landscapes in oils and oil pastels. This pursuit continued with river paintings where I described water surface textures as well as river life. I have a deep affinity for rivers dating back to my youth

  growing up on the Hudson

  as well as years of rowing on the Schuykill. My pursuit of texture led me to consider a new medium

  sculpture. I found that gestural line carved into plaster is a more interpretive way to capture the ethereal blend of wind

  water in motion

  and birds in flight. The carvings are painted in oils to complete the expression of light and mood.
