Professor Kahn plays a lot of Jazz piano pieces in class. The subject was similar to Mus205, with a few more arrangement assignments as well as the exams. There were only a few people who completed this class. The focus in the music department was shifted to DJ class. I understand that you can learn DJ matching on Youtube. However, that's the new college class trend.

Poor

I took Professor Kahn's class the assignments for the songwriter's workshop projects include; write short jingle for LAVC Monarch Radio Station (5-15 seconds),write/record music bed 30 seconds,write Chorus Lyrics to a given melody,melody over 4 chord progression, write/record your own song (3 minutes). In the class most people have already dabbled with writing/recording songs. If not you are at a disadvantage.

Average

Prof. Kahn's class is good to learn extended chords and jazz arrangements. For some reason, a lot of people chitchat during the lecture which makes it hard to focus on subject. Book is expensive and contains lots of errors. I suggest you try to find the free PDF online

Poor

This is a pretty easy class. We hardly even used the text, so I wouldn't even bother to spend money. Most info in the book is outdated. You can actually just sit in class to get the info you need. He grades easily in order to keep the attendance up in his classes.

Doctor Khan gives laser-focused feedback for us to improve. He was kind and patient enough to tolerate many beginner's questions. Also, he's flexible in weaving the curriculum to serve us best. His professional experience makes him invaluable. It's nice to have the example of a successful working musician.
