Women Who Have Run for President and Continue to Make a Difference

Presented to the Doctorate in Leadership group at Saint Mary's University

    August 9

Reaching the Millennial Generation in the Classroom

The millennial generation (Generation Y) is the age group of children born between 1982 and 2002. Students aged 15 to 16 were asked to answer questions regarding their classroom experience. Sixty eight students were asked to participate in the survey and 63 gave consent for their participation. A qualitative survey approach was used asking three open ended questions

    which yielded some fascinating findings

which complement the research that has been done on millennials. When a saturation point was reached

transcribing the same issue multiple times

the results were compiled and listed in narrative form. From this open-ended survey

    and transcription of data

the results yielded that this group has a preference for order

    safety and security

    expect to talk more

and have engaging experiences while learning at the same time. Millennial students say they want to use the creative side of their brain. In the context of assisting teachers in the classrooms and future courses

instructors must realize that this millennial generation needs to be nurtured

    mentored

    developed

and released to grow in their own learning.

The US Constitution and the History of Women Candidates for the Presidency

    In honor of Constitution Day

    Article 2

section 1 of our U.S Constitution

    and the upcoming election

Dr. Kotz conducted a study to determine how many women have pursued the U.S. presidency

and the character and strengths they each brought to the election process

and to building our country as a nation. In his presentation

he first reviews the period from the 1870's when our first presidential nominee

Victoria Woodhull put her name in contention and then brings us to the present current election dynamics

and ultimately the challenges each of these candidates faced in pursuit of this daunting endeavor.

Reaching Millennials in the Marketing/Management Classroom

This generation doesn't wear a watch

expects GPS in all new vehicles

gets the news online and chats with friends by text. How do we reach this emerging group in our courses and strategically cater to them in marketing/management classes? Are we preparing them for the future? What can we learn from the group born in 1982 to 2012?

    Personality

Gender & Learning Styles – Teaching to Student Aptitudes determines personality and cognitive profiles in secondary students

    focusing on intuitive/sensor

    thinker/feeler characteristics of students

and describes the relationship between personality profiles

preferred cognitive learning styles and math/reading comprehension aptitudes from ACT Explore results. Dr. Kotz also examines the possibility of gender differences in either reading comprehension or mathematics ability based on these personality characteristics. This study is based on Krause’s Cognitive Profile Model

built upon Jung and Myers work. Models studied also include Myers-Briggs

    Keirsey and Bates

Kolb and McCarthy and point toward new possibilities in effective teaching using student personality and cognitive profiles.

Building a High School Program - From the Ground Up

Discussions among some university and college personnel have begun to focus on whether Na-tional Collegiate Athletic Association football programs bring significantly more revenue and profit to sponsoring schools. Division-I schools tend to benefit from such a program

and generate far more revenue from football than the program incurs expenses. This study considers only NCAA Division III schools. This quantitative correlational study used data from the 2012-13 Equity in Athletics Data Analysis Cutting Tool (EADA) report. It used variables of revenue and expenses

and calculated profit. In a comparison of correlations for profit and revenues between schools that had football programs (r = .44) and schools that did not have football programs (r = .58)

the correlation is stronger for those schools that did not have a football program. This has implications for marketing of programs for Division III schools.

Do Football Programs Financially Benefit D-III Schools? A Correlational Study

Women Who Have Run for U.S. President−A Historical Look at Leadership from the 1870’s to the Present

This study found that in 2012-2013

a total of 442 D-III schools fit the criteria and 199 of those schools had football programs. D-I

    D-II

and D-III schools comprise a total population of 1108 NCAA academic institutions. Of those 1108 institutions

599 had football programs.\n\n\tFor NCAA Division III Schools’ combined statistics for all sports

there was a moderate correlation between expenses and profit (r = .40). See Table 1. For Division III institutions

    as expenses increase

    so do profits

but the relationship is not strong

but moderate. For these Divi-sion III schools that have football programs

there was again a moderate correlation (r = .34). For these Division III schools that do not have football programs

    there was a higher correlation

still considered moderate (r = .52).\n\n\tNCAA Division III Schools’ combined statistics for all sports

showed a moderate corre-lation between revenue and profit (r = .48). See Figure 1. For Division III schools

    as revenues increased

    so do profits

    however

the correlation was moderate rather than strong. For Division III schools that had football programs

a moderate correlation (r = .44) existed. For Division III schools that did not have football programs

    although a higher correlation existed

it was still considered moderate (r =.58). These disparities may have implications for how we market our sports programs within Division III Schools.\n\n
