Higher Education
Mohammad I.
Merhi
South Bend, Indiana Area
I am a department Chair and Associate Professor in the department of Decision Sciences at Indiana University South Bend.

I truly enjoy research and teaching. By mixing the teaching and research, I stay engaged longer and feel both endeavors complement each other and are satisfying to me. It also helps when the teaching subjects are related fundamentally to the research activities.

My research focuses on real problems that bridge academia and practitioner communities. To me, research is often a bridge to an ambitious goal—a bridge that needs to be crossed in steps. I tend to work on projects that try to bring cutting-edge research ideas to mainstream practice.

My primary research interest is in behavioral aspects of information security and privacy.I am also very interested in studying factors that affect the implementation and success of various technologies especially enterprise resource planning systems, health information technologies, and e-government systems.

I believe effective professors take on multiple roles which include stimulating lifelong learning, emphasizing critical thinking skills and interpersonal communication, and serving as role models. These roles may be challenging and require unwavering commitment to enhance knowledge among students and to help them become better citizens.

I am particularly interested in teaching information security management, Web development, systems analysis and design, IT project management, object oriented programming, and quantitative methods.
