Prof. Rothman is very understanding and nice. However, she gives lots of homework. There are tons of readings as well but homework doesn't count as a big percentage of your grade. You shouldn't get below a B as long as you turn in all your papers with the correct page number in time. However, her lectures can be quite boring.

      Graduate Teaching Assistant

As a writing center consultant, university students and staff members scheduled appointments with me to discuss their writing samples which ranged from class assignments, creative works, resumes, personal statements, articles for publication, etc. I also worked with students writers in the development of theses and ideas, providing brainstorming strategies that could be used throughout their academic and/or professional career. In these one on one sessions I employed both directive and non-directive tutoring strategies to best suit each individual writer’s needs. I also advised many multilingual writers regarding grammar and stylistic problems. I also prepared social media posts and participated in other functions that promoted the center and spread awareness about our resources.

      Parttime Lecturer

As a part-time lecturer I have planned and prepared courses for multiple sections of English 101 and 102. I theme my classes around pop culture to keep the courses fresh and engaging. I find that pop culture provides real-world examples of how rhetoric operates in contemporary society, and I use this to show students how to employ similar tactics in their writing. Pop culture also provides an opportunity to discuss digital literacy in addition to traditional modes of writing. Likewise, it can be easily connected to a number of issues related to cultural diversity. I maximized in-class time with thought-provoking discussions about these issues to help students develop critical thinking skills. While I provide students lots of low stakes writing assignments to help facilitate content for discussion, I also help students develop talent in writing through larger writing projects that are scaffolded in multiple drafts to foster an idea of process as well as product. Likewise, I meet with students one-on-one in multiple conferences to help foster their ability to succeed.

      Graduate Student Assistant

The Digital Media Suite is a collaboration between the University Libraries, The Delphi Center (faculty resources), and REACH (student resources such as tutoring and mentoring programs), and offers access to equipment and support for the creation and editing of images, sound and video. The DMS offers U of L students access to equipment for creating multimedia projects and maintain a staff of specially trained tutors to assist students with class projects and to offer technical support. My duties as a graduate student assistant included: 1. Managing the daily operating procedures of the DMS where I performed administrative duties such as data entry, scheduling, and delegating and planning tasks for a staff of 5 tutors. 2. Recruiting, hiring, and training new staff members in tutoring pedagogy practices, various software programs such as Adobe CS6 and various other media equipment such as cameras, lights, sound, teleprompters, and hardware associated with recording media data. 3. Working closely with the Delphi Center in collaborating with professors to plan class projects and host orientations and lead class workshops. 4. Planning and conducting tutor-training meetings designed to reinforce tutoring pedagogy practices, increase moral, and promote a positive team environment; directing various team projects. Last semester we all created a homecoming video that was shown on the jumbotron before the game. This past semester my tutors and I worked on creating individual tutorials for the software we use on a daily basis which we will use to help train future staff. 5. Maintaining and organizing data from multiple sources on our open access server. 6.Participating in outreach events in order to promote the use of the DMS and other REACH centers.
