Maureen Hogan O’Brien offers consulting and instructor workshops in
Reading in the Disciplines, Writing to Learn Across Disciplines, Tutor Training in Reading, Writing, and Informal Assessment. She has earned a BA in English from The University of Connecticut at Storrs and an M.Ed in Reading and Language from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

O'Brien has worked in education since 1974, most recently as a Professor of Developmental English at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC), where she taught English and Developmental English courses for twenty-nine years. Professor O’Brien earlier worked as a secondary English teacher at Suffield (CT) High School, and as a special education aide in Hadley and Northampton, MA.

For a number of years, she was Reading Coordinator for Springfield Technical Community College, and co-chaired both the Developmental English Department and the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee. Most recently she was on a number of Massachusetts assessment task forces.

Professor O'Brien has consulted on readability issues with national textbook companies, published articles on the reading-writing connection and journal writing for developmental students. She has been awarded grants to offer workshops in Reading in the Content Areas, Writing to Learn, Learning Communities, Assessment, and reading, writing, and tutoring at local, statewide and at national conferences.
