Dr. Mary Alice Druhan teaches at Texas A&M University – Commerce where she has been recognized with awards for both teaching and research. She has served on a teaching panel discussion for the International Clarinet Association and on the Education Committee for the Dallas Wind Symphony. Her lecture on mentoring the college music student was presented for the national conference of NACWPI. Dr. Druhan is the founder and director of the Northeast Texas Clarinet Day, an event which has evolved into the Texas Clarinet Colloquium, recipient of the 2011-2012 Community Seed Grant award from the College Music Society.
She has performed across the United States and in Puerto Rico, England, Germany, Italy, Spain and Thailand in recitals and conference performances while also performing as a member of the Dallas Wind Symphony, the Dallas Festival of Modern Music, Triforia Winds, and the Color of Sound chamber series. She was formerly solo Eb clarinetist with the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own” and a member of many orchestras and opera companies in the United States.
Dr. Druhan has suffered from and is undergoing treatment for a serious playing-related injury which inspired her research into musician injury, prevention, and recovery. Her work in this area is being featured in The Clarinet journal and she presents lectures and clinics about injury prevention around the country.
Mary Alice Druhan is aa Artist with Backun Musical Services, on the ProTeam for Silverstein Works, and an Artist with the World Clarinet Alliance.
