Biography

Orange County Community College (SUNY) - Film

Producer / Sound Designer / Professor
Mark
Carranceja
I am Brooklyn-bred and Newburgh-based Producer, Sound Designer & Experimental Filmmaker. My music production style ranges from Hardcore Techno and Experimental Electronic music.

I’ve been a DJ/Producer since the late-90’s formerly under the stage name DJ Element. Being a product of early ‘90’s New York Hip Hop, I drew from a well spring of the greatest music that the culture ever heard. During my formative years, I honed my chops as a party rocker and scratch DJ, eventually fine tuning my skills to be a turntablist. Shying away from DJ battles or pursuing a hustle as an open format party DJ, I discovered a path inside a music studio.

An electronic musician to the core, my current production focuses on Techno and Experimental music. My production techniques are a convergence of analog and digital synthesis, in which I combine an array of modular gear, rack samplers, field recordings and VST synths to produce a unique sonic palette.

Asides from being a DJ/Producer, I’ve logged in 20 years of Digital Cinema Production and Digital Post-Production experience as an Editor, Cinematographer, and Commercial Director. I am also the Founder and Creative Director of Noisemaker Media, a new media and digital cinema production company based in the New York metropolitan area. I directed over 50 music videos for independent artists from 2009-2012, and produced event coverage for live shows.

I am currently an Assistant Professor of New Media for the Arts & Communications Department at SUNY Orange in Middletown, New York. I was hired as a Full-Time Tenure Track Instructor after only three semesters of teaching experience. I was appointed tenure in 2017 after developing and launching the program in 2014. I’ve also developed curriculum for other colleges throughout the United States and have aspirations of building a VR/AR teaching institution in the heart of Newburgh, NY. I see myself as a passionate educator who challenges my students to produce work that reach for a difference and to view the crafts of music and filmmaking as tools for change.
