Ocker, Ph.D.
Spring, Texas
I am passionate about connecting with people and helping them solve problems. I am equally passionate about using data and analytics to advise strategic decisions. My sweet spot is when I get to bridge the gap between people and analytics through data storytelling. This has emerged from >15 years of experience driving outcomes in chemical, oil and gas and higher education settings, as well as my current work in the Harvard Business Analytics Graduate Certificate program at Harvard Business School.

DATA STORYTELLING FOR EXECUTIVE STAKEHOLDERS

With today’s emphasis on big data, the story of analytics can sometimes get lost in the numbers. As a data storyteller, I translate IT and digital innovation into fast and flexible tools. I make sure to equip senior leaders and executives with a strong understanding of how to apply analytical insights to their business strategies and practical implementations.

I am a proficient communicator of business analytics and intelligence through presentation decks, verbal messaging, and electronic exchanges. Over my career, I have published and presented more than 100 educational and technical reports. This has included projects such as developing and implementing data and analytics strategies for a global chemical company, synthesizing business analytics with engineering project management in the oil and gas industry, analyzing marketing and spectator data to increase attendance for a European tennis federation, and statistically validating a tool used globally for eating disorder research.

INTERPRET DATA FROM DEEP STATISTICAL & ANALYTICAL EXPERIENCE

I love the analytical process itself, particularly when I’m able to use my data expertise to bring strategic solutions into focus. I’ve even been known to do a little celebratory dance when analytics successfully drives outcomes! While leading a major university department, I applied analytical reasoning tools to the department budget and reduced zero-budget spending while improving performance outcomes.
