I am currently Chair of the Department of Teacher Education in the Kalmanovitz School of Education at Saint Mary's College of California. The Department prepares elementary, secondary and Montessori teachers, as well as education specialists. For more information, please go to: http://education.stmarys-ca.edu

I teach mathematics methods for elementary credential students, as well as cognition and instruction in our Master of Arts in Teaching program. In terms of research, I am a mathematics educator with a strong interest in how mathematical ideas are constructed and communicated through the use of the range of modalities available to people: speech, symbols, imagery, gesture...

I am also interested in how technology can support authentic learning in mathematics, for example, via simulations and microworlds.
