Mendel Biotechnology is a mid-sized agricultural biotechnology company dedicated to developing and commercializing genetic and chemical products for increased crop productivity and resource use efficiency. I joined Mendel’s team in 2010 to support their growing chemical genetics program. I started as part of a team working on low-throughput

highly specialized assay development projects. In 2011

I took responsibility for leading our in planta high-throughput chemical screening efforts

with an emphasis on data analysis

    hit prioritization

and directing follow-up work. In 2013 I became the group leader for Mendel’s Lab Automation group

responsible for experimental design and project management. I communicate experimental results orally in technical meetings and formal project reviews

as well as in written reports to internal and external groups.

    Research Scientist II

Developed a combinatorial screening method for studying interactions between polymer thin-films and complimentarily functionalized gold nanoparticles.

    Graduate Student

    • Achieved the total synthesis of a bioactive phalloidin analog using solid-phase peptide synthesis

featuring the novel use of an iodine oxidation reaction for the formation of a key thioether linkage. \n\n• Explored effects of peptide sequence and C-alpha stereochemistry on linear peptide secondary structure and cyclization efficiency in a variety of tryptathionine-containing peptides.\n\n• Supervised 5 undergraduate researchers

and taught 2 years of general and organic chemistry laboratory courses and discussion sections
