I am a member of the Emory University School of Medicine/Fulton County Jail Competency Restoration Program. My duties include teaching legal education, health awareness, expressive arts, current events, cognitive remediation, and conflict resolution to mentally ill inmates who have been found incompetent to stand trial. Our job is to restore the inmates to competency for trial. It is an experimental program to try to speed up the process of having the inmates evaluated/restored for competency. So, instead of sending these inmates to Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta, we teach, educate, and evaluate them in the jail. I am actually working inside of the jail on a pod of 16 inmates.
