Prof. Van Gaalen is the best professor out there! He's a great and caring person so don't be intimidated by his lively personality at first. Even if you only needed a science class, he's gonna make you want to be a geologist. He uses great analogies that actually make sense. If you need help, make sure to ask him and visit his office.

Professor Gaalen is a passionate about GLY but he's not a good teacher. He doesn't deliver the topics in a way the student can understand. You are required to visit a museum and be present on all the lab classes. If you want to pass of course. He's very vague about what's on the exam which is you don't know what to study and it is not helpful. You must really like GLY/rock to take her class

Do not take this class out of desperation. If you are into GLY i will recommend his class. But other than that it is not a good choice. I was not a fan on the way how he do the lectures. He will not tell you on what to study and you have to figure that out for yourself. No study guide given, no curved grades nor drop any grades. You must love challenges if you decide to take his class.

I really enjoyed Professor Van Gaalen's class. He's very good when it comes to explaining the material. Just keep up with the reading and you'll do fine.
