Southeastern Writing Center Association (SWCA)

Board of Directors, HBCU Representative

The HBCU Representative focuses on creating a network of SWCA HBCU members so that the organization can focus on meeting the unique needs of these institutions. The HBCU Representative should work closely with At-Large Members, respective State Representatives, and the Outreach Coordinator to organize events and meetings and should maintain and develop a database of his/her member and event information in the SWCA Dropbox. Service on a SWCA committee is also required. Attend the Annual Conference and all Board meeting as well as vote for events, officers, future conference locations, and state representatives .

Statewide Course Numbering System Coordinator

Edward Waters College moved to the Statewide Course Numbering System (SCNS) where all of our courses would be listed using the same prefixes as major public universities. I worked with faculty and department chairs to move the curriculum and course codes to the Statewide Course Numbering System (SCNS). This required entering the courses for approval from the Florida Department of Education's SCNS system, meeting with faculty and chairs when courses were returned to revise curriculum concerns expressed by the Florida Department of Education and work with the Registrar to create the courses in the EWC course catalog in Ellucian's Power Campus and in Self-Service. Oversaw the move and worked to implement curriculum changes to benefit the college and the students we serve.

Curriculum Committee, Chair

1. Approve agendas, minutes and provide overall organization (includes reserving rooms, sending announcements, etc.) for curriculum committee meetings.

2. Review all submissions before placing on agenda.

3. Oversee technical review of curriculum proposals, including course outlines, prerequisite/corequisite/advisory validations, degree and certificate applications, distance education requests, course changes, and advanced status requests. Ensure the accuracy of each approved document before signing off.

4. Create list of Curriculum Committee recommendations for approval by the Academic Senate.

5. Document and forward decisions to the Office of Academic Affairs for final typing and signatures before submission to the Statewide Common Course Numbering System (SCNS). The Curriculum Chair’s signature verifies both the accuracy of the documents submitted and that they were approved by the Curriculum Committee and the Faculty Senate.
