Good

I loved Professor Parker-Beard's class! She talks about her own crazy experiences and is very energetic. She is also very sweet and kind. Be prepared to write papers. She will allow you to correct your writings and gives helpful feedback.

Awesome

This professor lets you choose your own essay topics and is very clear with what she expects to be done. She actually listens to the students and gives you everything you need to know in class and on canvas.

Biography

University of Tennessee Chattanooga - English

Adjunct Professor at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
Higher Education
Jeannie
Parker Beard, PhD
Chattanooga, Tennessee
My name is Jeannie Parker Beard and I have been a college English instructor since 2005. I worked full-time teaching Composition, remedial English, ESL students, and other undergrad English courses most of that time, but in the summer of 2011, I cut back to part-time teaching so that I could focus on completing my dissertation and spend time with my new son. I graduated in December of 2012 with a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition.

I believe in the use of technology and social media to allow students to become engaged citizens of the world. I also believe in distance learning and the possibilities for online learning to change the face of higher education in the world today. We are living in the digital age, and as such, we should embrace the possibilities and face the challenges that this amazing world offers us as educators and learners, consumers and producers, and national as well as global citizens.

I love the outdoors, reading, writing and spending time with my family and friends. I’m an excellent cook and I particularly enjoy creating delicious and nutritious organic meals. I am interested in health, alternative media, and projects that inspire and motivate people to reach their goals and be well. I believe in Mahatma Gandhi’s charge that we should “Be the change” that we want to see in the world.
