Biography

Ross University School of Medicine - Medicine

Adjunct Professor at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Jared
Block
Charlotte, North Carolina
I work as part of an advanced diagnostic team of hematopathologists that serve hospitals in both North and South Carolina. Clients include The Levine Cancer Institute and The Gibbs Cancer Center. This position integrates morphologic, cytogenetic, flow cytometric, and molecular data to make diagnoses and guide therapy.

As the Levine Cancer Institute's bone marrow transplant program has grown, I have become involved with several translational research projects.

Teaching is enriching to me. During my early years with Carolinas Pathology, I participated in training our hematopathology fellows. I have continued to give lectures to laboratory technicians, mid-level providers, attending physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, and the public.

I am sponsoring a philanthropic project about which I am passionate. It is the development of a telepathology program for hematologists in Africa. I continue to teach remotely via WhatsApp and am fundraising to acquire equipment to serve as an expert consultant to them.

I am also fascinated with cutting edge technology. As chairman of our group’s IT committee, I participated in the implementation of a new LIS, digital pathology, HIPAA compliant SMS communication, and HIPAA compliant cloud storage.

My career has included serving as Secretary and Vice President of the Medical Staff and Chief of Pathology at a 120 bed hospital, medical director of multiple other laboratories, and chairman of our QA committee.

I initially directed the transfusion service for the Carolina's Laboratory Network for 8 years and was the associate director of Citrus Regional Blood Center for one year. I have now returned to my role as director at Atrium Health (Formerly Carolinas Medical Center).

I am an entrepreneur at heart, and my projects outside of the realm of my employment with Carolinas Pathology, include involvement in an international digital pathology startup, a concierge wellness business, reality TV show production, scientific writing, owning a vintage guitar business and being a business partner in a company providing a novel product to keep a guitar from slipping off of a musician's lap.
