Throughout my years with the Department of Correctional Services I was able to challenge myself as a leader and supervisor. I had many opportunities with various training classes that were offered. I had the honor of becoming a Crisis Negotiator, I also trained with various weapons and honed my leadership skills. I then moved to California where I began work in the school system. I worked with at-risk youth on truancy issues, gang problems and drug use. Through this job I began working closely with the student's whole family, in an attempt at fixing the deeper issue. If these attempts didn't work, I would have to submit documentation to the County Prosecutor's Office in an attempt to correct these issues through the legal route. Working at Imperial Valley College allowed me to utilize several of my prior skills to develop a class that would not only teach about Criminal Justice, but also get some real life experience too. I would need to choose a book to teach from, obtain data, compete a powerpoint to teach from and then make it interesting and easily understandable.
