Awful

Professor Blackshear doesn't follow a textbook. The only book he mentions in the syllabus is "The American Yawp", which is online for free but not very helpful since he doesn't use the book himself. The course is all lecture based with slides that are not helpful since they don't relate to what is on the exams. Also, be aware of harsh grading.

Awesome

I read the book, took notes during class, and got an A. He lets you record the lectures so I listened to them sped up while playing video games and that worked for me. The tests are almost verbatim to the lectures. I just memorized what he said, then forgot most of it after the test. The Myths and Legends book was interesting though if you like to read.

Awesome

At Collin, I'm sure there are easier professors to take for Texas history. Choose this professor if you want a lot of knowledge and want to learn. It is important to take good notes in order to receive an A. You pretty much have to pay attention for the whole class hour. If that doesn't sound appealing to you, don't take him. The book would be of no use to you.
