Education

  • Miami University

    ABD

    Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Microbiology
Not quite certain what I wanted to do after college, I decided return to the Microbiology department at Miami University, I had spent 10-weeks in that department as a Howard Hughes fellow in the summer of 1992. My goal going into my Miami experience started as a 2-year Masters Degree program, followed by applying to medical school. Along the way, it became I was just going to skip my Master's Degree and go directly into my PhD. Unfortunately it ended ABD "All But Dissertation," in terms of pieces of paper collected. I never achieved a degree from that experience. However, I consider my experience at Miami as the most important period of my life prior to me being a father and husband.

  • Wilmington College

    BS

    Biology and Chemistry
I was a student athlete in college. I worked hard to complete the requirements for a B.S. in both biology and chemistry, I also received a minor in history. I played 3 years of intercollegiate basketball, 4 years of intercollegiate golf. Most of my time was spent working and training as an athlete as well as a future scientist. Other cool things was involved with while a student at Wilmington. I got to do a little work in the Alumni Association office. As well as different jobs in and around the athletic program through a work-study program. The winter of my senior year, unable to play basketball due to injury, I auditioned and won the part of Constable Warren in Wilmington's production of Our Town. Not bad for someone not in theater/music department. I also had the privilege to win a Howard Hughes Fellowship which help lead to my studies in grad school at Miami University.
