Experience

  • Wichita State University

    Associate Professor of Design

WSU was my early foundation as an educator. I designed and directed over 40 productions working with some fabulous mentors in Leroy Clark, Joyce Cavarozzi, and Betty Monroe. I did University level committee work, obtained local grants for technology updates, recruited to the program and made large curriculum changes in the areas of design and technology. I was awarded the College's highest awards in creative work and several regional design awards for set designs of (not limited to) 'Angels in America', 'The Robber Bridegroom', and 'Burn This'. I would still be there as a tenured faculty member had my wife and I not tired of the basement during tornado season!

  • Virginia Shakespeare Festival

    Scenic Designer

Designed Sets for Tempest, MacBeth, Complete Works of Shakespeare, Art, Winter's Tale, Illyria,
    and more

  • Viterbo University

    Scenic Designer/Teacher

I did some nice design work at Viterbo but it wasn't a great fit for either party. I was proud of 'Grand Night for Singing' 'How to Succeed in Business' 'Good Person of Setzchuan' 'Spitfire Grill' and 'Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean'.

  • William Inge Playwriting Festival

    Designer

I design a multi-media tribute set for the honored playwright of the year. I have worked with Arthur Miller, Neil Simon, Stephen Sondheim (ask me about saving Bernadette Peters!) Arthur Laurents, Tina Howe, Paula Vogel, the 25th Anniversary, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, and just returned from completing this years tribute with Arthur Kopit. Always a dream to work with Mike Wood and his video team. Karen Carpenter was a consumate professional in putting the interior scen work together. Pleasure meeting and seeing the work of Ben Corbett, Dan Williams and Ryan Andrus over the (many) years.

  • University of Northern Colorado

    Scenic Designer

I have been teaching stage design for 30 years. At UNC I am most fortunate to be doing my most mature work having just completed 'Sweeney Todd' and 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle'. I continue to improve the curriculum with new classes, serve on search committees, and help to recruit students. I currently am working on productions for next season and a couple shows for the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, summer of 14.

Education

  • Casper College

    Associate of Arts (A.A.)

    Theatre Arts
I studied and achieved my Associate of Arts through the theatre program while taking gen. eds. and art classes.

  • University of Utah

    Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.)

    Theatrical Design and Technology
I designed and acted in over 20 theatre productions while finishing a B.F.A. in Theatre with a Secondary Education Teaching Emphasis and my M.F.A. in Design and Technical Theatre. I received two ACTF Regional Design Awards and both designs were adjudicated at the Kennedy Center. They were Timothy Mason's 'In a Northern Landscape' and Mark Handley's 'Idioglossia', both directed by Kenneth Washington. 'Idioglossia' was picked up by Jodie Foster and became the movie 'Nell'
