  • AIEA - Association of International Education Administrators

In the inaugural year of AIEA's Senior Advisors Program, I was assigned four self-identified advisees with whom I am communicating singly and collectively regarding their responsibilities as newly arrived or budding "senior international officers" at their universities, which include one institution each on the East and West Coasts and in the Midwest and Africa with enrollments ranging from fewer than 1,000 to nearly 34,000. My advisees also differ markedly in type and level of their own education, but they have all had more than a decade of experience in higher education.

Education

  • University of Chicago

    Master of Arts - MA

    Linguistics
Thesis on syntax, semantics, and cognitive development proposes a bifurcated model of language knowledge as procedural knowledge divisible into receptive/interpretive versus formulative/expressive processes. These divisions correspond to well-established neuropsychological dissociations. On the one hand, the dissociation between perception and action derives from the split between posterior (input) and anterior (output) neuroanatomical processes, while, on the other hand, the dissociation between sensorimotor and higher cognitive processing derives from the split between peripheral (subcortical) and central (cortical) processing. The thesis identifies early developmental milestones in the emergence of these separate but interacting aspects of linguistic ability.
