Awful

Professor Shaw is really a tough grader. On a homework I already had the points but he took it off just because I missed doing Java docs for one method even though my program had work. The exams are really tricky. He is an extremely tough grader. He gave me a D even though i never got anything before lower than a B+ in FIU. I wouldn't take this guy anymore, better to have any other professor.

Poor

Firs of all, Professor Show was hilarious and always made everyone laughed. His Programming 1 class was easy. However, for Programming 2, I would recommend a different professor. His lectures were kind of a bit boring. Reason is, he will break everything down a bit slowly. Aside from that, assignments were very difficult with lots of restrictions. There were no extra credit given and exams were tough.

Professor Shaw is an absolute gem at Florida International University. She's the right choice if you're talking strictly about learning and absorbing information. However, it's the classic case of an amazing professor being beat down by his overarching fear of cheaters. Because of this, 25% of your grade is based on assignments and the rest is the midterm and final. The tests are weighed too heavy and are very difficult.

Awful

Take Prof. Shaw if you're skilled in programming. Otherwise, please don't. He gives two exams. You can study all you want, but it's actually about sticking the compiler in your mind. There were 30 questions and 25 of them were very confusing! I'm not surprised that more than half of the class dropped after midterm.

Awesome

Prof. Gregory is the best programming prof! Don't get fooled though because his class is hard. He teaches you the right way of coding and he's very strict with documentation. Programming is a tough class as it is but he explains everything clearly! I know I'm good at programming, but his assignments still took me longer than expected.

Awesome

Professor Shaw's class was switched to Zoom lectures and homework only. Grades were based solely on homework because the school was closed on the day of the midterm and remained closed for the final due to pandemic. He really cares about his students and what they get out of the class. If you don't do the work and pay attention, the lesson is much more difficult.

Good

To be honest, Professor Shaw's class it's not as dreadful as I was led to believe. The lectures can drag a bit and lack excitement, but there are occasional humorous moments sprinkled throughout. The assignments are tough but manageable if you tackle them promptly and adhere closely to the specifications. Utilizing his website is key, the examples and notes provided there are incredibly beneficial. If it weren't for the quarantine exemption from exams, my assessment might be a whole lot different.

This class is for you if you're ready to really work hard. He's a pretty strict grader. But remember, he's just getting you ready for what's out there in the real world. Everything he marks you down for are mistakes you can't afford to make on the job. Plus, he's a hoot and always ready to help, whether in class or not. If you're eager to learn and better your coding skills, go for it and take his class.

Good

If you're thinking of taking this professor for COP 3337 class, make sure you study Java. His homework can be difficult if you're not already good at Java or basic coding. However, he's knowledgeable and can teach you how to get through it during office hours. Plus, he has a lot of helpful materials on his website. His class is hard but so worth it and would take him again.
