Experience

    Professor Emerita of German Studies

    I taught courses at all levels in the Department of German Studies, from elementary German language courses to senior seminars. I also offered courses in the Program of Comparative Literature at Smith College.
    Among the experiences I value most are those gained as director of the Smith College Junior Year Program at the University of Hamburg. I held that position in 1980-81 for the first time. The last year I served as director for the JYA Hamburg was 2008-09.
    Since the Fall of 2011, I have taught language and literature/culture courses for the Department of German at Amherst College.
    Between 1982 and 2000, I taught many a summer in the German School of Middlebury College.
