Francine Olivia
Shakir
Oakland, California
My life's work is to address issues related to social justice and civil rights. This work involves raising the consciousness of all people to inspire activism for positive change in their personal lives and in their communities. In all aspects of my work I operate as a human rights advocate, teaching the values of respect for self, cultural wisdom, humility and openness. I've been an advocate and activist for urban youth for more than 20 years. I operationalize my broad background in educational research to tackle issues such as schooling processes and social influences on identity development; culturally-relevant pedagogy; equity in education & health, and mind, body, spirit wellness.
