Biography

Antioch University - Writing

Game Writer, Author, Mentor
Evan J.
Peterson
Greater Seattle Area
I seek opportunities to write stylish public-facing content, especially in humor, gaming, imaginative/speculative fiction, and LGBTQ narratives. In addition to my work teaching creative writing and literature, I'm a game writer, author, copywriter, journalist, and critic. I now freelance writing game narratives for apps and escape rooms as well as other assorted projects and products. I’m interested in full and part time, original creative content, ghostwriting, and work for hire.

My first full-length nonfiction book, THE PrEP DIARIES: A SAFE(R) SEX MEMOIR, is now available from Lethe Press. My best-known works to date are the long-form interactive fiction rpg DRAG STAR! from Choice of Games and “The Case for PrEP..." published in The Stranger and Best Gay Stories 2015 and linked below.

I've been a Lambda Literary Award finalist as volume editor of Ghosts in Gaslight, Monsters in Steam: Gay City 5 (2013 Minor Arcana Press and Gay City Health Project). My writing has also been published by Boing Boing, The Rumpus, TheBody.com, Weird Tales, and Nightmare Magazine.

I was also the founding Editor-in-Chief of Minor Arcana Press, recipient of a 2013 smART Ventures grant from the City of Seattle Office of Arts and Culture. My duties as EiC included branding, selecting manuscripts and taking them from final draft through the publishing process, and overseeing fundraising. In addition, I founded the feminist horror film series SHRIEK in Seattle, which is now concluded. I wear many hats, and they all look great on me.

  • The PrEP Diaries: A Safe(r) Sex Memoir

    Lethe Press

The term PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) has become part of our dialogues with not only personal physicians but friends and lovers. The gay, bisexual, queer and transgender community is exploring Truvada, the first daily pill prescribed to HIV-negative people that prevents transmission of the virus, while the straight world catches up. Author Evan J. Peterson first wrote about his experience taking PrEP for The Stranger back in 2014. Since then he has chronicled his life in the same clever and sardonic tone; readers of The PrEP Diaries will enjoy Evan's stories about sex, intimacy, and the wild new frontiers of queer life in an increasingly PrEP-savvy world.
