David Thorne and his Toronto graphic design studio, Thorne Branding & Design, helps new enterprises launch brands and medium‐sized organizations take theirs to the next level

Beginning with his iconic 1994 identity for TV’s LIFE network, clients have ranged from the e‐commerce site Chapters.ca to a regional hospital network, an early music group, a fashion retailer, a wedding photographer, and the salon down the street. In every case, David remains passionately committed to providing creative, thoughtful solutions — and making clients feel respected, understood, and impressed.

He shares his expertise as an OCAD University instructor and as a writer on branding and design for Canada's visual communications magazine, Applied Arts. The proof: powerful brands and happy clients.

    • BrainStation

      User Interface Design
      User Interface Design is the practice of transforming user goals and requirements into beautiful, intuitive, and most of all functional digital interfaces. This course introduces students to fundamental design principles, best practices, as well as visual trends and patterns relevant to crafting website and mobile applications, including Android and iOS. Throughout the class, students will learn to use the appropriate tools in designing and prototyping interface design. The course amounts to a final project that showcases the students' user-centered design thinking in the creation of a website — from ideation to pixel-perfect visuals — across multiple device platforms.
