    The Technical Writer's Checklist

    Step-by-step

you'll learn how to create paragraph unity

    cohesion

and logical bridges; ensure proper word choice; and the perennial favorite: passive versus active voice. Learn to add punch to your writing and make your students want to learn more. Do you know how to best write for your audience's reading level? You will after following the steps in this guide.\n\nThe Technical Writer's Checklist walks you through the steps you must take to become a great technical writer

a skill required of all trainers.\n\nAnd there are no boring

    time-consuming grammar exercises!

    The Technical Writer's Checklist

Critical reading requires the reader to read intentionally and skeptically

looking to understand not only what the author says but also asking questions such as

\n\n-Why did the author write this article?\n-What are the author’s qualifications to write this material? Is the author an expert in this topic?\n-What is missing from the text? Has the author presented all relevant information?\n

    Critical Reading

A text for undergraduate and graduate college students that describes the salient components of preparing a college research paper.

    Writing a Great Research Paper

Optimization of Academic Assignment Presentation: Using Behavioral Economics to Effect Positive Student Outcomes

How assignments are presented to college students may affect their performance. One of the elements under a students’ control is the schedule that they follow when preparing and presenting their work for evaluation. Procrastination affects students’ academic performance. Faculty may use findings from behavioral economics

    such as loss aversion theory

to encourage positive student behaviors. Students

when seeking to complete their academic work and meet their academic responsibilities

must make choices that require evaluating tradeoffs (e.g.

complete the assignment or join friends at a social gathering

submit an assignment response on time even though the submission does not reflect best work or complete the assignment but accept a grade sanction for late submission). Improving students’ ability to make choices that best serve their academic interests

particularly in regard to procrastination and organization of time and effort

may lead to students’ more fully meeting academic requirements.\n\nKeywords: academic

You are what you think and how you think. The manner in which you think will affect the decisions and judgments that you make.

    Critical Thinking: An Academic Skill

By the time a student enters college

he or she must have attained a degree of literacy that demonstrates preparation for the rigors of post secondary academic study. One of the markers of this preparation is the list of books that have been read. I have noticed that few undergraduate students are fully prepared for the reading

    writing

and critical thinking requirements of their first few years of college work. To help rectify this problem

I offer my list of the books that all Americans should read before entering college. If you are already in college and have not read all of these books

waste no time in getting up to speed.

The Books That All College Students Should Have Read

Reading is required in both academic study and general citizenship. The more accurately one reads

comprehending the presented data and relationships among the arguments and retaining the details

the greater the benefit that may be accrued from the reading effort.

    Reading Academic Material

My listening to students lead me to recognize that although students and faculty often share common objectives and expectations

    at times

we diverge in our judgments and preferences

    sometimes significantly. For example

while students expect faculty to fully explain the details of course material—arithmetic procedures

    processes of chemical analysis

explanation of an author’s unstated meaning—faculty expect students to demonstrate independent scholarship and initiative—studying and memorizing procedures

    reading how processes are controlled

and researching the biographical data and literary criticism of authors during the course of explication.

    Bridging Divergent Expectations

    Step-by-step

you'll learn how to focus on learners' needs and exceed their expectations every time

    add punch to your presentations

and create truly great training materials. Through an in-depth exploration of all new and different technical articles that delve into most important skills that lead to success as a professional trainer

The Training Book demonstrates quickly and succinctly the steps you must take to become a great trainer.

The Training Book: Handbook for Trainers

    Volume 1

College students often fear the research project. However

    in truth

the research project is an opportunity to delve deeply into a domain of knowledge

    learn new facts

and acquire an appreciation for perspectives that often come through no other venue

    other than the research project.
