Farrell
Denver, Colorado
My education has provided me with a strong background in academic musical disciplines, including composition, music theory, computer music, and music history. As a composer, I have written and had performed works for a wide range of ensembles, and have had these works performed at numerous festivals and concerts.

My teaching experience has given me solid foundation on which to build a career in higher education. I am currently teaching Composition, Music Theory, and Ear Training as an Affiliate Faculty member at Metropolitan State University of Denver. I have previously taught music theory, aural skills, and orchestration as a Lecturer at Sam Houston State University; as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University, I taught composition lessons and a two-semester sequence on counterpoint.

I am interested in working with students of all levels of experience in my field. Arts education is an important part of 21st century society; training in the arts helps us negotiate the unfamiliar elements that we are confronted with in an increasingly small world. It also provides the opportunity to think freely and creatively, a skill that is useful in any discipline. Creating stronger arts education in today's world is an important goal to me; I am highly interested in any educational opportunities that would let me further that goal.

As a composer, my works have been performed at a variety of festivals and settings. I have written for all types of ensemble - instrumental and vocal, large and small, acoustic and electronic. My music tends to adopt a postmodern aesthetic, drawing from a wide range of musical traditions, including experimental modernism, more traditional classic style, and various popular musics.
