Museum Administrator/ Historian
Higher Education
Daniel
O'Neil
Burlington, Vermont Area
I have extensive experience in both higher education and with non-profit educational and cultural organizations. I draw from my life experiences to help students not only acquire knowledge, but also prepare themselves to meet their career and life goals

My six years of experience as an adjunct instructor has taught me a great deal about higher education, pedagogy, and student matters. While Adjuncts do not often advise students, I have offered advice to several of my students on their career goals and degree program when it is requested.

I utilize an interdisciplinary approach to teaching, and incorporate many subjects such as literature, mathematics, philosophy, and many more into my teaching.

I have managed two internship programs, developed relationships with community members, and managed projects from start to finish.

I also have worked for various historical organizations for nearly fifteen years, as a volunteer, intern, docent, educator, and executive. My experience has given me valuable skills in non-profit management, collections management, museum educational practices, and human resources. In addition, I learned a great deal about marketing, media, communications, and social media.

This experience will make me successful in many environments, including non-profits, historical societies, colleges, universities, museums, and cultural heritage organizations.

Publications

  • Fatima's Sword: Everyday Female Resistance in Post-Revolutionary Iran

    ProQuest

The Iranian Revolution of 1979 created distinct revolutionary practices that involved cultural debate in everyday life. Revolutionary leaders like Ayatollah Khomeini empowered ordinary people by informing them it was their duty as individual Muslims to overthrow the Shah. This sense of individual duty and revolutionary patterns carried over into the modern women's activist movement. By closely examining the arguments and methods of two female Post-Revolutionary reformers, it will become apparent how each woman felt a sense of personal responsibility to become a social activist and followed a consistent resistance pattern that was drawn from her own unique revolutionary experience. Sources for this research included articles, books, and memoirs published by my two subjects. These were supplemented by interviews and speeches given at several venues. Because Iran is under economic sanction by the U.S., this author had to rely primarily on electronic resources.
