    The majority of my work at Duquesne University was focused on contemporary continental philosophy. However as I approached my dissertation I found that much of what I valued in the continental tradition had a history or a precedent. My dissertation focused on the work of Kant and Hegel

    and examined the way that distinct metaphysical assumptions have consequences for the way in which logic is thought of. I defended my dissertation successfully on November 4th 2011.

    Although initially focused on Existential Phenomenology

    my interest evolved into Lacanian Psychoanalysis

    Derridean Deconstruction

    and Foucault's analyses of power. The ultimate cornerstone of my M.A. degree was the development of a theoretical framework for the possibility of understanding the nature of ethics in the practice of psychology. My Master's Thesis was on Nietzsche

    as these thinkers are mobilized in Judith Butler's text: The Psychic Life of Power.

    My recent scholarship has focused on Kant

    Hegel

    and their reception in 20th century philosophy. Primarily my interest was in how their respective conceptions of logic followed from their larger philosophical ambitions. Currently I am working on 1) a paper on Kant's view of the architectonic relation between logic

    ontology

    and transcendental philosophy

    and 2) a manuscript on Spinoza's reception in German Idealism and Postmodern philosophy. The Spinoza text

    tentatively titled \"Haunted Citations

    \" pursues a line of inquiry introduced by Antonio Negri regarding the distinction between immanence and transcendence.

    I taught three sections of Philosophical Ethics per semester for two semesters at Robert Morris University. This course was taught from a text book (\"The Moral of the Story: an Introduction to Ethics\" by Nena Rosenstand) which included primary texts. The course was discussion based and challenged students to relate philosophical ethical theories to their everyday lives. Attention was paid to the relation between the ethical and the political.
