Experience

  • C&K Research and Statistical Consulting

    Market Research Consultant

In my consultant role, I work with companies that conduct market research and/or consumer insights studies. I served as the Senior Scientist at Innerscope Research, a Boston Based Neuromarketing start-up that was later acquired by Nielsen. This experienced familiarized me with a wide range of neuromarketing methods that can be used to study brand equity, consumer response, advertising effectiveness, messaging, and campaign development. Today, I use this experience in conjunction with my knowledge of basic research and statistics to help companies identify research partners, develop their own studies, create meaningful performance metrics, and statistically analyze their data.

  • Univeritys of Michigan - Dearborn

    Professor

I am a professor in the Psychology department at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I have taught undergraduate courses focusing on brain and behavior, information processing, and abnormal psychology. I also teach graduate courses in Ethics and Methods of Psychotherapy.

A clinical psychologist by training, my research interest (and lab) is devoted to the study of personality, emotional processing, interpersonal functioning, and adult attachments. I am particularly interested in the role of implicit mental processes in all of these areas. Studying how non-conscious mental activities influence how we make sense of the world in general, how we relate to other people generally, and how we regulate our emotions is fascinating. It is also interesting to study how "lower" non-conscious mental processes interact with personality traits to influence other (higher) ways people think (e.g., what we remember; what our attention is drawn to; who we feel attracted to; how we make decisions).

Underlying these interests is a powerful appreciation for statistics, psychometrics, construct measurement, and research design. Future members of my lab can anticipate that they will spend as much, and likely more, time learning about these tools and methods as they will studying more exciting (at least that is what I've been told) things like selective attention.

    Licensed Clinical Psychologist

At Arbor Psychology Group (APG), I provide executive coaching to individuals seeking to grow, achieve career goals, and balance a demanding work and personal life.

My interest in executive coaching was sparked by my personal experience transitioning from an academic career to an executive position. When I left Harvard Medical School to take a Senior Scientist position for a market research startup, I faced a number of challenges. These challenges led me to explore, and later study, the ways executives effectively manage their time, improve their communication, increase their efficiency, and find a balance between personal and professional priorities. I have integrated this experience with my background in clinical psychology. I have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and am licensed in the state of Michigan. This combination of professional training, study, and direct experience has helped me develop a unique approach to coaching executives. This approach centers on helping professionals identify and articulate their goals across multiple domains of their lives, identify barriers (internal and external), develop strategies for pursuing goals, and then actively monitor progress.
