Transportation economics includes examination of market structure and regulation, pricing of both transportation services and infrastructure, assessing the impacts of non-optimal policies, externalities in transportation policy including congestion, vehicular emissions, and the impact of transportation on land use (and vice versa). Research includes transportation industries (trucking, rail, airlines, transit, bus) and both passenger and freight transportation. Freight performance measures and infrastructure investment decision-making across modes. Impacts of biofuels on the transportation system and other mode-shifting impacts resulting from policy in both freight and passenger contexts. The relationship between travel (vehicle miles traveled or VMT) and economic activity at both the national and regional/urban levels of analysis.
